Ruffley Joined by Campaigners for Successful International Trade Justice Rally

Tuesday, 8 July, 2003

David Ruffley called a meeting on Saturday, 28 June in Bury St Edmunds as part of the '24 hours for Trade Justice' campaign. It was held at St John's Church, St John's Street from 11.00-12.00 noon. David invited everyone interested in Trade Justice to attend. It was organised in conjunction with the national campaign being run by CAFOD and Christian Aid.

David said: 'I was delighted at the large turn out for this meeting. It demonstrates just how concerned my constituents are about trade justice issues. I share the main goals of the Trade Justice Movement- a fair deal for poor countries on international trade. I was able to lobby the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on this issue when I was in Washington DC in May.

At the meeting in Bury St Edmunds I was presented with a placard full of signatures supporting the Trade Justice Movement which I have forwarded to Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, so that she is aware of my constituents' strong views.'

I was also asked for contact details of the World Bank and the IMF. They can be contacted as follows:
