David Ruffley MP Welcomes Fall in Unemployment

David Ruffley has welcomed new figures released on 19 January 2023 which show that unemployment is falling in Bury St Edmunds.

The House of Commons has published a breakdown of the most recent numbers of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA). It reveals that the number of people claiming JSA in December 2010 had fallen by over 11% compared to the year before.

'This is good news. The last Government left the British economy in a complete mess- unemployment was up, Government borrowing was up, and businesses were struggling. Since May the Coalition has dedicated itself to getting the deficit under control and creating an environment that businesses can thrive in. This drop in unemployment shows that we are on the right track.'

'In Bury St Edmunds. 166 fewer people are unemployed than last year. That's 166 people who are able to enjoy all the fruits of employment- who are able to support their families, take pride in their work, and control their finances again.'

'However, there is still much to do. Unemployment is still much higher than it was five years ago. We cannot allow the recovery to be derailed now'.
